CSSSA People Mollie Luria-Roberson
Mollie Luria-Roberson attended the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) Animation program in 2009 when she was a junior in high school. She was thrilled to finally surround herself with like-minded artists. When she came home and began her senior year, she carefully prepared a portfolio that positioned her as a competitive candidate for an arts school.
“It’s good to know that you can have a future in the creative industry. It’s not some mystical unicorn that can’t be caught. You can have that life if you want it.”
Mollie attended Otis College of Art and Design and earned her Associate of Applied Science, Graphic Design degree from Platt College in San Diego. The confidence in her artwork started at CSSSA and has now grown and flourished into landing her a full-time position as Creative Manager at the San Diego Repertory Theatre. Mollie leads a talented team of graphic designers, videographers and photographers who create, design and execute all promotional material for each theatrical performance. From printed brochures, posters and mailers, eblasts, advertising campaigns, to directing publicity media shoots for the show’s cast, and more, Mollie and her team attract audiences to experience live theatre. Working in this creative position allows her to wake up every morning and be excited about what she does. She loves the mix of working with other artists in a theater company.
Her advice for up and coming artists? Don’t pigeonhole yourself.
She said, “Hang out with everyone, go see films, go draw on the floor, go play instruments when no one else is looking, don’t limit yourself – push yourself through your comfort zone.”
A Little About CSSSA:
California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a four-week intensive residential program for motivated and talented high school students. It offers seven disciplines, including: Animation, Creative Writing, Dance, Film, Music, Theater, Visual Arts. All California students who qualify are awarded scholarships to attend by the CSSSA Foundation.
The CSSSA Foundation is dedicated to preparing students for a creative life.
