About The Bots
Can you name any other band that has performed at The Festival Circuit, Coachella, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, Riotfest, Shindig, Afropunk, Japan’s Summer Sonic, Sasquatch, Fun Fun Fun Fest, as well as National Dates with Dropkick Murphys, all while being under the age of 21? Didn’t think so.
The answer to “name that band”? The Bots.
Brothers and bandmates Mikaiah Lei (vocals and guitar) and Anaiah Lei (vocals and drums) are, according to The New York Times, ” . . . on the verge of stardom.” Artzray had the opportunity to catch-up with these talented young guys for a brief video interview during a recent visit to their alma mater’s band room. It was here in California at Glendale High School where they first got seriously hooked on making music.
Bots bandmate Anaiah Lei told us about his best advice for young musicians who are trying to break into the music industry.
“Persistence,” Anaiah Lei told us. “Persistence is the key to success if you want to make it in the music industry.”
That, and loving what you do, which he clearly does.
The brothers recorded their first album together when they were just 15 and 12, introducing listeners to their infused music of garage/punk as well as American blues and ballad tradition. But because of their youth they are propelling that energy into a whole new, powerful and personal form of music that is the signature sound of The Bot’s.
In October of 2014, The Bots released their full-length debut album, Pink Palms with lyrics so sophisticated and old-souled, it will likely win you over regardless of your age.
Back in February, the band made their television debut on Late Night with Seth Myers and performed their single “Blinded”. And as if that weren’t enough, they were named “L.A.’s most celebrated rock duo” by LA Weekly and featured in Interview Magazine’s “15 Faces of 2015”.
This past summer, The Bots toured with Incubus, Deftones and Death From Above 1979 across the United States. Then the band journeyed to the United Kingdom, ending their summer tour in Seattle, Washington at Bumbershoot over the Labor Day weekend. Best known for their songs, “Blinded” and “All of Them (Wide Awake)” The Bots retro-sound is so beyond their years that their young age can catch many of their fans by surprise. That said, if you get the chance to hear these guys live, take it. You won’t care how old they are, you’ll just rock hard and get sucked into their cool vibe.
